Safety Tips

Bussly helps you discover people boarding the same virtual route as you, but every match is still a real person you're meeting for the first time. These tips are here to help you board with confidence — online and in person.

1. Before you match

  • Use recent, unedited photos and an honest bio — the same standard we ask of others
  • Review a profile fully before starting a conversation; trust your instincts if something feels off
  • Keep early conversations inside the app. Bussly's messaging tools exist to protect you
  • Be cautious of anyone who rushes to move the conversation to another platform

2. Protect your personal information

Until you know and trust someone, avoid sharing:

  • Your home or work address
  • Your daily routine or the exact times/places you'll be alone
  • Financial details, bank information, or copies of ID documents
  • Passwords or one-time verification codes for any account, including Bussly

3. Watch for common scam patterns

Report and block anyone who:

  • Professes strong feelings very quickly, before meeting in person
  • Asks for money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or "emergency" loans
  • Claims to be travelling, stationed abroad, or unable to video call
  • Pushes you toward a third-party investment, trading platform, or website
  • Avoids ever speaking on a call or meeting in person while asking for personal details

Bussly will never ask you for payment outside the app's official Bus Pass purchase flow. Treat any other payment request as a red flag.

4. Video chat before meeting

A short video call is one of the simplest ways to confirm a match is who they claim to be. Be wary of anyone who consistently avoids or postpones this.

5. Plan your first meeting

  • Meet in public — choose a busy café, restaurant, or public space for your first meeting
  • Tell a friend— share who you're meeting, where, and when; share your live location if possible
  • Arrange your own transport — get yourself to and from the date independently
  • Stay sober enough to stay alert — moderate your drinking, and never leave food or drinks unattended
  • Have an exit plan— you're never obligated to stay; leave at any time if you feel uncomfortable

6. Trust your instincts

If a match pressures you, ignores your boundaries, or makes you feel unsafe in any way, you don't owe them further conversation or an explanation. End the interaction, block the account, and report it.

7. Reporting & support

Inside the app, you can block or report any profile or message at any time.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first (e.g. 112 in the EU) before reporting to Bussly.

8. A note on the metaphor

Bussly's bus route is virtual. There is no physical vehicle, driver, or organised transport — you are always responsible for arranging your own travel to and from any meeting.
